In the month of June 2021, Unity Club members have visited Intwaza the elderly widows who lost their families during the Genocide against Tutsi, living in Impinganzima hostels built in different parts of the country in order to strengthen them in the period of 100 days of the 27th commemoration of the Genocide Against the Tutsi.

On June 3, 2021, Unity Club Intwararumuri members visited Intwaza the elders widowed by the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, living in the Impinganzima hostel in Rusizi district for the 27th commemoration of the genocide against the Tutsi, on June 11 they visited and strengthened Intwaza living in Impinganzima of  Bugesera district, on June15 they visited and strengthened Intwaza living in the Impinganzima of Nyanza district; on June18 members of Unity Club Intwararumuri closed these activities in Huye district whereby they visited and strengthened Intwaza at Impinganzima hostels in Huye district.

Doing all of the stated activities, Unity Club Intwararumuri was always with its usual partners who are always involved in the activities of supporting Intwaza; namely, AVEGA Agahozo and FARG.

For so long Unity Club Intwararumuri has been with Rwandans in the activities of remembering the Genocide against the Tutsi, relieving as well as helping Intwaza – the elderly widows who lost their families during the Genocide against Tutsi. Unity Club especially do this with AVEGA Agahozo as the association assigned to uniting such elders so that they regain hope to live well and in peace.

Thanks to the partnership of Unity Club Intwararumuri, the government of Rwanda and more partners, four Impinganzima houses are already built in different districts of the country: Huye, Bugesera, Nyanza and here in Rusizi.  Around 350 widowed elders live in these houses.

In order to secure the standard living of Intwaza, Unity Club Intwararumuri has taken up the project to avail the infrastructure near the Impinganzima house in Huye district. This project started with widening the Health Post where Intwaza go for treatment.

The Palliative Care Unit was also built for the elders who suffer severe diseases which are no longer dealt with medicine, the ones who are reaching the time of passing away. This house was built in partnership of Unity Club Intwararumuri and FARG and it was inaugurated by members of Unity Club and its partners including FARG, AVEGA Agahozo and Huye district on 18/06/2021. They were joining hands with Intwaza at Impinganzima Huye in 27th commemoration of the Genocide against Tutsi.

While opening this Palliative Care Unit officially, Dr. Diane GASHUMBA, a member of Unity Club Intwararumuri said that the Palliative care unit is availed in Huye district but it will likewise help other elders living in other Impinganzima houses in different parts of the country.

Dr. Diane GASHUMBA said, “I would like to let you know that this Palliative care unit building won’t only prop-up the elders living in the Impinganzima of Huye but it will also prop-up Intwaza living in the Impinganzima hostels built in different parts of the country, they will be taken here to be treated when it is needed.”

In her conclusion, she asked the partners to keep the partnership. “Dear leaders of Huye district, all of you partners, our devotion and partnership are needed to find all the necessary equipment so that the exemplary services are rendered here as in Rwanda such health care services are only available at Kabuga Palliative Care Unit.”
