Unity Club and the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion have organized a mega fundraising event as a philanthropic activity to empower children currently staying at Noel de Nyundo Orphanage.

The activity that is scheduled to take place in Rubavu Town on Saturday 31st March, 2012, is expected to generate over Rfw 173 million for the construction of 20 houses.

Those to benefit are among the 70 children staying at the orphanage for lack of any family trace. The fundraising is to be held under the theme : “Let’s Empower our Children”.

The event is open to any person ready to offer a foster home, cow(s), construction materials, service and/or funds towards improving the welfare of the needy children.

The fundraising is a follow-up on a recent pledge announced by Unity Club Vice President Aloisea Inyumba to provide shelter for the homeless children.

Prime Minister Pierre Damien Habumuremyi, who was the main guest at the occasion to share Christmas with the children, became exemplary by adopting one of the orphans. He also announced a government plan to have foster families for all children by the end of this year.

As contribution, Rubavu District administration offered a site to construct the houses, while other government entities have already offered materials.

The fundraising event is expected to attract senior government officials, business personalities, local community members and sympathizers, who are also expected to turn up for the monthly Umuganda (Community Work).
