On Tuesday December 28, more than 150 mostly orphaned and disabled children from 30 Districts of Rwanda celebrated Christmas and New Years at Village Urugwiro with the First Lady and members of Unity Club.
The children were very happy to see the First Lady, the Presidency as well as the City of Kigali for the first time.
“I am 8 years old and I am in 4th primary. I'm happy to come here and share with other kids that I didn't even know.
This is the first time for me to be in Kigali, ”said Mukeshimana Aimé, resident of Ruyenzi District.
Uwamahoro Chantal from Kirehe District, 12 years old and finishing 3rd primary, says she saw the First Lady. "I saw with my own eyes for the first time the First Lady as well as the Presidency".
Lyse Ange Nicole de Gicumbi is 10 years old and is in the 4th year of primary school. She is happy to be with other children from other parts of the country. "I am happy to play with other new faces and I did not know that I could one day be in the Presidency with the First Lady".
Ingabire Gisčle de Gasabo says that she was chosen by the local authorities and that she wanted to see the President. "I had new friends here and thought I was going to see the President."
Uwineza Liliane de Rusizi is also happy to receive the gifts from the First Lady. “I got donation from the First Lady including the cake and a bag. Santa Claus also gave me a chocolate ”.
Madame Jeannette Kagame who was the guest of honor in her speech insisted on the national values which should characterize the children of Rwanda of tomorrow.
“I wish you a happy new year 2011. We wish you to work seriously at the school. It is also necessary to be a model in terms of behavior. You should also be tolerant, flexible and patriotic, "said Jeannette Kagame.
