Unity Club Intwararumuri through “Ndi Umunyarwanda Integration Project” sponsored by Rosa Luxemburg Foundation-East African (RLF-EA), in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Culture, Rwanda Defense Force Command and Staff College (RDFCSC), and the former National Unity and Reconciliation Commission, has set competitions of Ndi Umunyarwanda for Higher Learning Institutions on the theme, “Ndi Umunyarwanda: the legacy we must scramble for, maintain and put first”.
These competitions were for students of the following eight Higher Learning Institutions: RP-IPRC Musanze, INES Ruhengeri, University of Technology and Arts of Byumba (UTAB), Institut Catholique de Kabgayi (ICK), University of Rwanda (College of Education, Rukara Campus), University of Rwanda (College of Agriculture & Veterinary Medicine, Busogo Campus), Catholic University of Rwanda (CUR), and UNILAK Kigali. Students from these Higher Learning Institutions competed in four different forms: Essay writing, Songs, Poems, and Sketches.
In November 2021, a jury made up of the team from Unity Club and its partners in the competition, went to all participating Higher learning institutions, to judge the performance of the contestants and award the winners.
As the competition mainly intended to "Continuing the platform for dialogues between adults and children with the aim of exchanging views on the promotion and preservation of the Rwandan spirit, especially among the youth.", Unity Club took the opportunity to prepare dialogues on Ndi Umunyarwanda for the students of the participated higher learning institutions in accordance with the Covid-19 prevention guidelines.
During the closing ceremony of the competition at the national level, Mrs. Dorothee Braun, the Regional Representative of Rosa Luxemburg Foundation-East African (RLF-EA), said that the western countries can and should learn from Rwanda.
Mrs. Dorothee revealed, “Ndi Umunyarwanda also speaks about reconciliation and repair. And speaking from the perspective of the West with its current growing tendencies of exclusion, I believe we can and should learn from you”.
In her closing remarks, Hon. Marie Solange Kayisire, the 1st vice Chairperson of Unity Club appreciated the contribution of the partners of Unity Club in the project.
Hon. Kayisire said, “We really thank all our partners in this project, who have made a significant contribution to the completion of the 2021 edition of Ndi Umunyarwanda competition and hope you will continue to work with us in the next edition of 2022.”
