Via Igorora programmes presented on the Radio Rwanda in November, Unity Club members and beneficiaries explained the role that Unity Club plays in constructing lasting unity among Rwandans.
Unity Club Intwararumuri was created by First lady Jeannette Kagame in 1996, and embodies former and current Government members and their spouses; it intends “to plant the culture of unity and peace-the pillars of sustainable development.”
Through the Igorora talk held on 13th October 2020 on the Radio Rwanda, the executive secretary of Unity Club, Madam Regine IYAMUREMYE explained how Unity Club members initiated the contribution of giving the light of Unity and reconciliation to other Rwandans.
She said, “We have been doing different activities throughout the country, talking with all people so that we contribute profoundly in building unity and reconciliation that we had realized that it is the development foundation to each Rwandan.”
She clarified, “The activities of Unity Club Intwararumuri foster Ndi Umunyarwanda campaign, basing on its goals such as keeping on encouraging unity, the culture of peace among Rwandans, and walking together in the journey of building our country by looking back on our past, looking at our present-day achievements as well as looking ahead to the future and together as one.”
Through the Igorora programme presented on 20th October 2020 on the Radio Rwanda, Minister Marie Solange KAYISIRE, the 2nd vice chairperson of Unity Club clarified how the activities of the club encourage the Ndi Umunyarwanda campaign.
He said, "The activities of unity club Intwararumuri foster the idea of "Ndi Umunyarwanda". They align with its aims, namely; encouraging unity, the culture of peace among Rwandans and being together in the process of building our country by looking back on our history, then on our achievements as well as looking ahead to the future, and most importantly; all of us together.
National Unity and Reconciliation Commission (NURC) partners with Unity Club in stabilizing unity among Rwandans: The executive secretary of NURC, Fidele NDAYISABA, highlighted that Unity Club played a significant role in unifying its members by making them exemplary citizens in the journey of unity and reconciliation among Rwandans.
He said, “As top leaders, members of Unity Club became good examples of what should be put in place to help Rwandans stand up for unity and reconciliation as the way we (Rwandans) opted to pass through in order to restore our Rwandanism as well as constructing our country.”
Unity Club performs diversified duties, aiming at building unity and reconciliation among Rwandans such as helping elderly widowed people and orphans.
Cleophas HABIMANA, one of the orphans who got a house in Rubavu district, witnessed how Unity Club took them from former Nyundo Noël Orphanage, gifted houses to them, counseled them, and trained them on entrepreneurial skills so that they start a new life and now their hope for the future is surging.
He said, “Before, we totally depended on the orphanage but Unity Club helped me to start a new life which enabled me to progress. Unity Club Intwararumuri stood in for my parents who couldn’t be with me anymore.”
Esperance MUHUNDWANGEYO, the elderly widow who lost her husband and children during the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi, living in Impinganzima hostels, constructed by Unity Club in Huye district, said that before then she had been living very pessimistically because there was no one by her side.
She witnessed, “Before, I lived a very hopeless life because I had no one to care about me but since we reached this home; I rejoiced a lot because before I was unbelievably lonely; that is why, reaching here made me feel normal again.”
